1991 300SL back to R-12 or go to R-134?

The a/c compressor has seized on my car so in addition to installing a new compressor, I'll also be cleaning out the system with a/c flush and then installing a new: expansion valve and dryer. If I'm not satisfied with the how the flow of the a/c flush exits the condenser, I'll also replace that.

Since I won't be replacing my evaporator and the lines, I'm thinking that I'll re-fill with R-12 instead of going to R-134. I'm told by my indy of 10+ years that the Mercedes a/c systems don't work as well in R-134.
