1983 380SL Battery Light problem
Hello,
This is my 1st post here and I need a little help with a friends 1983 380SL the car has been outside for about 2 years and Rats had been in the engine compartment and not only built a nest on the passenger side below the heater valve but they also ate some wiring and Yes, I repaired the warm-up regulator wiring and thermostat wiring along with some other places but.... I started the car and starting going through a check list for all the electrical consumers and found that the blower fan is inoperative and also the battery light does not come on period. Doesn't the charging system use the bulb for completing the circuit as most german cars I have worked on? any help would be appreciated Christo |

the bulb comes on in key position 2 and if the system is not charging properly
I assume you check bulb. Grounds are good, anything else on the dashpod not working, many times these issues can be traced to the pod Blower fan could be fuse related, frozen due to lack of use or the wiring used for mouse nests. Its a bear to get to Let us know what you find

alternator light bulb
thanks' meltedpanda ...
Yes it was a bad bulb and now on to the inop blower motor. and I spent about an hour so far and hoped it would be something simple since it did work about a year ago. I pulled the access cover off in the engine compartment to see if I could give the fan motors a smack! and also from inside but, No dice trying to possibly free up a sticky motor brush. so tomorrow it's diagnosis time Thanks again for your support. as mentioned , not easy access , if you can snake a hollow tube with a bit of oil in the end ( held in by suction) and drip it right where it needs to go it may help..

There are four 100MM nuts securing the blower housing. Look at them as they may be rusted on the studs. If not too badly rusted spay with a quality penetrant. Not WD40. Let it sit and do its job. Hopefully the studs won't break when you try to remove them. If you remove the assembly here is a thread on replacing the blower motor. Heater Blower Unit Rebuild Tutorial - Mercedes-Benz Forum
