High Idle 1983 380SL
As soon as I start the car the idle takes off to around 3500-4000 rpm and will not come down. If I attempt to put the car in gear, it immediately takes off and almost impossible to stop the car. It will not idle down at all.
I let the car set for 24 hours, I attempted to start it again cold, however it immediately idled at 3500 rpm.

Is the ABS lamp on the instrument panel illuminated as well? Suggest you check the OVP relay located near the fuse panel in the passsenger's side footwell area. Do a search for OVP and you'll get more information than you will ever need.
