Head and chain?
Would a 91 300SL with about 140K on it be due for both a head gasket and timing chain? If so what's a reasonable ballpark for both? Can they be done separately or is it best to combine them?

That's the 104 engine, isn't it? If it's anything like the 103 with single cam the chain isn't very long and doesn't seem to wear very quickly. The last one I looked at appeared to have hardened gears and the chain was still tight a 325,000 km so I'm kind of thinking yours should still be OK.
Are you having any leaking at the head gasket, low compression or chain noises? Why do you think you need to change these parts? |

Don't own one. Contemplating a purchase. Just wondering about costs of possible big ticket items.
