83 280 sl valve adjustment

It's been awhile. I attempted a valve adjustment on the m110 seems pretty straight forward but when I started the car it run well just noisey . All adjustment bolts are tight and all the valves took about a 1/3 turn to loosen them . Done know the mileage on the engine I would say under 200k . Is there a way to check and see if the rockers are good also saw that there are "shims" can they be replaced fairly easily. Love the r107 with the six would like to get it running as good as possible. Thanks in advance you have always been awesome
