The Endless Trigger Points Discussion

I have a few questions. Hoping to draw from the well of communal knowledge.
My 1973 450sl starts easy, and runs/drives like a dream, until.... it doesn't. After about 20 minutes at highway speed, it chugs a little, then straightens out, then might backfire, then straightens out. In city driving, it is fine usually for an hour or so, then it often stalls at a red light either when I come to a stop or try to take off. It sometimes starts back up easy, sometimes turns over for longer and then starts. Never has left me stranded, but has scared me more than once now.
My trigger points look very worn, and I appear to be getting about 180 degrees of open signal from them. Aside from this, the plastic covers are cracked and mostly disintegrated. How would I go about confirming that these are the source of my problems? I am relatively new to the early r107 world, so forgive my novice.

Next, is the "Norbert" adjustment tool something that I can purchase somewhere? Or does someone have his contact information so I can buy direct?

My feeling is that trigger points are the source of my woes, but I'm open to other's thoughts. Just want insight/experience on this before I drop that kind of cash. Thanks in advance!
