Part out or sell to restore 1973 350SL (450sl)

Ok, found another barn find. This one 1973 350sl auto with about 117k miles.

Been sitting around for about 20 years so is a mess.

I have a 1974 parts car I can take things off to get going, but is it worth my time.

I dont think these 1973 really are that valuable? I know the bumpers and headlights are worth something but other than that nothing really special here.

I got a good deal so I really dont care either way, just dont want to try to waste time on this thing to get it running and still not worth crap.

Thanks for any and all advice. These are 4 year old photos and car is even rougher now. I didnt take photos when I purchased it yesterday.

I personally wouldn't bother. These 107's are cheap as borscht and you will be way upside down on it by the time it's running.

They are just too easy to make run IMO. If the body is not rusty, then it’s a sin to crush it, especially if you have the title and you can make it run. Once running, it will be far less of a headache. The euro lights are not correct, so you should replace them with US and put some money in your pocket.

And even though you will make more money parting it out, do you really want a mess of parts and oil and a half parted out eyesore laying around? I can tell you, parting out cars is not what I had hoped for in my life. When you’ve got an engine block you can’t move in your driveway, and then you’ve got to get trailers and engine hoists and the whole neighborhood thinks your a junk man, and your wife is disgusted with you, and you’ve simply got to keep charging forward to make any progress, you might have second thoughts of your decision to part out a car for a few extra bucks instead of making it a running and driving car that someone else can buy and drive or part out.

Get it running and have some fun with it or sell it along. It looks fairly good actually. The hard top alone is probably worth most of a grand.

If you can get $250.00 for a 107 hardtop you are very lucky.

questions

thanks for all the advice!

I will see if I can get it running, I have extra fuel pumps etc so lets see how it goes.

I agree about pulling the headlights.

Hardtop is worthless and rusted. I will have problems giving it away.

I got a perfect 560sl hardtop for free last year someone just wanted out of garage so..

Thanks,

Brent

Here you go. Car is rough. I love the nest where the battery is supposed to be located! HAHA. He took out the floor mats because they got black from mold!!

I did get it to crank that is all I will attempt.

I’d like to buy the plastic cover for the distributor cap if it is still available. Feel free to invoice mknmike@live.com for it. I assume a padded flat rate envelope should work. Maybe I can buy more stuff while we are at it, but I can start by paying for that plus shipping.

That is the most perfect description of parting cars at your home that I have ever heard. Tough way too make a buck.
