Question Panoramic roof ??

Im looking for a panoramic roof for a 97 SL500. I know they made them an option in 1996 on, and they can be fitted all the way back to older 129's, but Im not having much luck finding one, or even researching it. Anyone look into this?

I think the car may would have to have been factory ordered with this option....I'm not sure if they can be retro-fitted.

Darn, thats why Im not finding any info on this. I thought it was just like the hard top, but with a glass roof and you could switch them.

They were slightly tailored at the factory when they were manufactured.

But they can also be retrofitted - even to a 1993 model - although the window seals will need modifying

I understand that it is a relatively easy retrofit; at most you may have to change some seals, although on more recent cars this is not necessary. There have been a number of prior posts in which this was explored in detail by some of the experienced techs.

If You Havent Found Panoramic Top Watch E-bay. I Believe I Saw One There About Six Months Ago For $3500.it Wasnt There Long So Probably Sold Right Away. I Have One On My 98 Sl600 And Like It A Lot. Mine Came On The Car From The Factory And Is Water Tight And Very Quiet. Dont Know If Its Worth $10000 As Quoted On That Web Site But They Are Nice. Probably Why I Bought My 98 Used With 38000 And Dont Think The Soft To Had Ever Been Put Up.. Good Luck!

Panoramic Glass Top Retrofit

I have a '90 300SL and I purchased, thru Ebay the late glass top from a '96 600SL. It fits perfectly with NO modifcations (yes NO modifications) and does NOT leak in rainy weather.
There seems to be an abundance of tops coming from Florida. Quite pricey at a minimum of $3000 upwards I think it is worth every penny and if u sell your car u can resell the top separately at a profit. As u know they are rare and in demand. Just keep checking and Good Luck and Hope that helps your search.

Wow I posted this soooo long ago, even before I bought my SL which turned out to be a 1990, then upgraded to a 1996. I very rarely use the hardtop, by the time its time to put it on its time to put the vehicle away for the winter.

What does that mean, "panorama roof?" Is it just a glass roof, or is there more to it than that? I actually thought they didn't go back that far.

They basically are glass roofs. You can look at mine next time you're over.

Reminds me of those old Vista Cruiser station wagons. Remember those? I always wanted my dad to buy one of those when I was a kid.

Thought you sold that one to make room for the Masseratti.
