needed: 450SL engine wiring diagram

Anyone have any ideas where I can obtain a more extensive engine wiring diagram? I have the "Electrical Troubleshooting Manual" that came as part of the MBZ Service Manual CD from thepartsbin but it mostly covers the wiring inside the passenger compartment and only a few engine components. I need to replace just about every wire in the engine compartment due to cracks and wear and I want to avoid the $3,800 cost of a whole new harness. There are also several "after market" adds from the previos owner I'd like to remove but I need to know which wires are supposed to be there and which aren't.

Also I need some of the connectors, specifically the fuel injector connector (purple circle) and 4 terminal connector (blue oval). I would like to fix the connections right, not with excessive red electrical tape like they are now. Any ideas are welcomed.

Thanks

I have an MB factory manual I can scan the electrical diagrammes out of if you get no other help. Let me know.

Also if you discover where to get those injector connectors from kindly let me know as I broke one on my 250CE (they are identical to hte 107). I couldnt find them anywhere and resorted to using speaker connectors.

Regards,
Daryl

Maybe I'm looking at something different than you are, but I thought the electrical section on the CD was pretty good. Especially if you go into the injection section.

There are a lot of these cars at recyclers - you might try them for the connectors.

wiring harness

If you go to the partsshop link at the top of this web page and email phillip (philip@peachparts.com), he can get a wiring harness for less. He quoted me less than $600 for a brand new wiring harness for my 1975 450 SL. He also told me that just the end connectors are not available. My wiring harness is currently souldered to the various engine parts since the ends have broken off. Also, you can check the used car part websites. Most of them offer warranties on their parts.

Thanks for all the replys. Glad to hear I'm not the only one struggling with this issue of irreplaceable connectors.

Chuck: I'm pretty sure it's me looking in the wrong place in the manual....can you be more specific what section and/or grid of the manual has the diagrams you spoke of.

Princess: thanks, I'll give Philip a call.

I just spoke to a guy here in Australia who has a new old stock wiring loom for a 450SL. Hes going to get back to me with a price (hopefully he isnt doing something stupid like calling MB for a new price to compare it with!). If its only a couple of hundred aussie dollars it might be more than worth your while to have him mail it up to you. I'll let you know when he comes back with a price.

Regards,
Daryl

Replacement injection harness

If you're still interested I have located a brand new old stock injector loom for US$250 +P&P here in Australia. This will fit the early 450SL with electronic injection. Email me at Darylp171@hotmail.com to let me know.

Regards,
Daryl
