Blinking rollbar indicator light on dash

My 98 500SL has a roll bar indicator lit and continues to blinks once the ignition is turned on. BUt recently I found way to bypass this and able ot turn off this blinking light by turning the Key to "on" position ( without starting the car)then turn the key off and then turn the key to " on" again to strart the car. Does any one have an idea why by doing this roll bar indicator seem to correct it self? thank you
