I'm wondering if there will come a time when you will have completely restored this car should it not sell in the next year or so.

You just don't seem to learn, do ya. I just purchased a 1995 E320 Wagon from a private owner. He paid $14,000.00 for it from a dealer. He had it for 1 1/2 years, spent $1,200.00 in repairs/maintainance and sold it to me for $7,500.00. He wanted - and bought a new SUV. The MB trade-in value was at auction wholsale, so he sold it himself at what he could get on the open private market. He had a difficult time selling it. The car is in wonderful condition and I just had a complete service done, all fluid changed, along with a few minor repairs. (Total of cost of $350.00) He could have had a attitude like yours, but he would have the Wagon "sittin " in his drive for who knows how long. He learned a lot about purchasing and selling used cars - MB's in paticular. What I still don't understand about your position on your SL is: if you don't like the car and want to sell it, continually complain quaility and then fix it (cause your a perfectionist, which again makes no sense) why do you hold such an untenable position on price and declare you will keep it if you can't sell it? It just dosn't make any consistant logic or sense.

Once again, I know that the car is worth at least 10 k. Why would I want to just give it away just for the sake of doing so? To do the new owner a favor? Give me a break. You drive a broken down peice of crap if you want to . I wont EVER. Its called pride

I think that what Bruce Hat (and just about everyone else here) is saying is that there is NO logic behind your actions. If you don't drive the car, you wont be driving a "broken down piece of crap", period. And if you spend another $5000 on this rebuilt transmission you will not recoup that in the sale. You goofed and bought a lemon, so face up to it and let it go. You're not doing the buyer a favor by selling it below value, you're doing yourself a favor by getting rid of the car that causes you so much pain. Too much pride can be harmful, you know...

I think an estimate of 10K for a going rate is high. I think around $8500 is a better estimate.

10K was what was told to me from members of this board as fair . Im seeing peices of junk on Ebay for 12k or more. Anything under ten and it stays with me.

Why not try eBay again? I think eBay works well when you start at a low price - say 1 buck (heck, a few people from this board will bid if you start at $1 just to give you a break ).
Get people bidding to generate interest and hopefully your reserve will be met. I've sold a couple of vehicles on eBay by doing it this way...7 days and it could all be over, Lynn Good luck, Ryan |

Hey Lynn, I got the perfect solution for ya. Go purchase Crossfire badges from the Chrysler Parts Dept. Take off the SL badges on your car. Now, put the Crossfire badges on the SL - and there you go - your new car. Now when anything goes wrong, you'll think you are fixin the Crossfire and things will be just fine.
BTW: None of my cars are peices of crap, they are all in perfect condition and very reliable. MB's are wonderful cars, if you don't start out with someone else's problem or lemon. You just have a funky attitude to suggest that, shame.

Bruce for the 20th time, please stay away from this thread. You hate it, it hates you ,heck Im starting to hate you. Those who are interested will stay and hear all about my quality experience. You have choices in life. Dont stay tuned to find out how this turns out for me. I hope you never have to sell one of your cars. Then you will see what Im going through.

Hey Lynn, your full of sh... I've been offered more than I paid for the two Benzs I own ( one is olny two weeks since purchase) and considerally more for the Jag. Your problem is, you just don't know what the he.. your talking about. BTW, another wrong point, nobody hates me on anyone else on this forum. You just seem to be wrong about everything. I now enjoy following this thread. To see how silly your logic and approach will get about the SL. I will most assurdly stayed turned.

You guys are hilarious!
Lynn - The value of the car is defined by market conditions during the time it's offered for sale. Period. If you are competently marketing the car and not seeing any response at the offered price, something has to give. At this point, it will be impossible for you to recover your investment. You will take a bath at the time of sale with the only variable being the depth of the water in the tub. You have to become reconciled to that point. You may see many 380's for sale at equal or higher asking prices than your example. However, here's a question to consider: How long have they been offered for sale? Bruce - Such language from a fellow Pennsylvanian! |

Bruce whatever. Ill just stand by this car. Mercedes Benz never made a lemon, so I guess Im just experiencing the normal MB problems everyone else does, but are too ashamed to admit. I'll just remain a proud MB owner, and continue on my one repair per month cycle. Man this car gives me pride.
