Idle Control Valve/Module test procedure? '85 SL
Hi all,
Are there troubleshooting procedures that I can perform on the Idle Control Module and Idle Control Valve for my car using common tools? (power supply, VOM, heat , vacuum) I'd like to see if they are responsible for my eratic high idle condition. Thanks!

Sometimes when you tap it with a wrench; It will make the Idle go down and stay down. Give it a real good crack!

Eric,
Can you provide a littlemore detail? Which component should I tap and where is it located? Thanks!

Did you ever get the test procedure that I sent you? I'm not sure if that second email address worked.
A quick test of the valve is to move the connector back so that there is just enough space on the pins to connect the leads from a multimeter. With the engine idling, you should see about 5 volts. If you pass this test, it means the idle relay is working and you have a failing valve. There are lots of posts on how to clean them. There are also a number of guys on e-Bay selling the OEM VDO valve for substantially less than the $240 and change which seems to be the going Worldpac price.

Chuck,
I thought I sent a "Thank You" Email....my apologies. Yes I did receive and printed it for use in the garage. Since it's about 5 degrees here right now I had to prioritize projects. The Mono valve replacement went to the top of the list. I plan on getting to this troubleshooting execise shortly....just trying to get all my ducks in a row so my time in the cold is short. Thanks again for your help!
