engine temp
Replaced the thermostat in my 380. Can't remember the exact temp stamped on it but I think it is 85 or 90. From cold the car now seems to take a long time to heat up, About 10 miles at 55mph. The temp climbs to 100 then falls quickly to something less than 90 where it stays. Is this normal or is my new thermostat faulty?

Funny, when it started to get cold here in NJ my heat would not work for the most part. About 99% of the time I'd get cold air and the engine didn't seem to warm up. All I could think was that the thermostat was stuck open or missing. I then replaced the monovalve and now I have welcome heat.
I'll take notice of my '85s temp guage and post observations.

OK...today at lunch it was high 20s to low 30s. Took about 4 miles for the air to start to get warm. About five to get to about 80-85 water temp. From that point on it fluctuated between 90 and 95.
BTW, does the 380 use an electric fan for radiator cooling? I never looked.

RE: 380 Cooling system
RickM. Thanks, Mine takes much longer, Wondering if maybe mine is partially stuck open. The fan is engine driven. There is an electric aux fan to help cool when the A/C is on.
DaimlerChrysler. Thanks, the original thermostat had the leg broken off. Fished around the cooling system but couldn't find any pieces so gave up looking. Feel better, the missing piece is probably not in the engine. |
