And last year, the local dealer wanted $120K for his two models on the lot...wow! Didn't know they would depreciate so fast!

Tell him you'll be in his neck of the woods on a business trip. You'll be glad to stop by with the money. See how he reacts (or doesn't) to that.

I've read of a number of Ebay scams where the con set up an elaborate "phony" escrow biz including a legit looking website.

To be honest, most people who get scammed deserve it....

BTW, here's the FBIs complaint/Fraud center: http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp

This is apparently another flavor of the most common screw.

FWIW, my nephew recently sold an expensive motocross bike. A guy from Ireland said he'd take it and would send a MO for a higher amount. The guy did send a bogus check and wanted a refund for the difference...about $2k. Then a friend of his from Texas would supposedly pick up the bike.

My nephew is 20 years old and caught on to this bull. What flagged him?
-The guy asked not one question about the bike.
-He was trying to rush a transaction....had to be today or tommorow.
-The overnight package said it was from some country in Africa

Folks do a google search on ebay + Western Union scams. These are a dime a dozen. bcgreen your second deal sounds even worse than the first.

Having once succesfully purchased a $20k car on ebay I can assure you that jjrodger is dead right - online car purchases should be handled exactly the same way as any other time you buy a car. Inspect, negotiate, transact and forget all the other BS that these ebay bandits are proposing.

Very sceptical, however the escro link doesn't work.

I'd tell him to come out and you drop a deposit on him the moment he arrives.
Or you could find your own escro acount

He wants to take a $60,000 lost on his car by selling it for 28K, but he is not willing to pay import duties, probably half of that................?!

And they just arrested 45 people in Amsterdam/Holland that where involved in the Nigeria scam.

Entertaining

Well, when I brought my BMW into Holland years ago, I didn't have to pay anything. The rule then was that it had to be 6 months old. It is absolutely clear that nobody could import a car from the USA without customs clearance. If moving household goods via ship to Holland, the car would not be released without the requisite papers. So, the car does not exist.

Other than that, proposing to go to Holland (about $500 from anywhere in the USA at the moment with KLM) and pay cash should scare them enough. Send the police to the meeting point.

SCAM, SCAM, SCAM

If it was legit, it wouldn't be too good to be true.
