380SL Stalls At Stoplight & Cold Start Problems?
I have a 1985 380SL with 110K miles. Last night we had very dense fog in our area. After stopping for stoplights the car would stumble and die and then restart OK until the next stoplight (has never done that before).
It also has not been cold starting very well, it cranks longer than usual, starts then dies when attempting to pull out, after running for 30-45 seconds it behaves Ok after cold start. Recently replaced fuel filter, cold start fuel enrichener, glove box fuel pump relay and spark plug wires. Does this sound like a bad fuel pump or what? Also maybe condensation in the distributor cap (thinking this as I write)? Please help with ideas. Thank you. |

I would start with the following:
- make sure that the cold start valve is getting power - run a fuel delivery check - check the system and control pressure - make sure the warm-up compensator is getting power, and that the heating coil has resistance - see what the duty cycle reading from Pin 3 of the diagnostic socket is - check for vacuum leaks Lots of posts on this stuff Also, change spark plugs and run some techron in the next few tanks of gas. If your thermostat has not been working, you have probably accumulated a fair amount of carbon
