Trunk opening?

Guys, for those without the remote trunk release button,

how in the world can you open the trunk without using the keys? Is there a lever or something to pull on inside the car so that the trunk can open...just like in normal cars? i havent seen one actually in my 92 300sl....

as the situation would have it, right now i have to alight from the car in order to open the trunk when going to places where the guards do mandatory bomb inspection...hassle!!

imagine turning off the ignition, getting out of the car, opening the trunk, closing the trunk, turing on the ignition and then going on my way....

any comments? ideas?

I don't think there is any other way to get around your situation. It has always been my pet peeve about the R129, a car costs a bundle when new but yet does not come with remote trunk release. Even the '93 Honda Prelude I had has that feature.

Doesn't the trunk unlock when you unlock the doors? In the 107, and in many MB's, all of the locks function on a vacuum system -- when you unlock the doors, all of the locks unlock (including the door covering the gas cap) -- The trunk can remain locked if the key is turned and removed in a specific manner (usually the key is turned to the right and removed at the horizontal position). If the trunk has not been locked in this way, it can typically be opened when the doors are unlocked.

I am surprised that the 129 does not do this???

Yes, the trunk will unlock but not open, not remotely as Sleeper mentioned. You still have to get out of the car, walk back to the rear and depress the opening button to open the trunk. Same for the gas filler door. There is no way to pop the door open from inside the car.

Hi Elau -- I don't think that is what SLeeper is asking --- from what he writes, he seems to thinks he needs to turn the car off, take the keys out of the ignition and unlock the trunk to open it. His question is: "how in the world can you open the trunk without using the keys?"

If the car is unlocked, and the trunk has not been locked such that only the non-valet key will open it, then all the guards need to do is push the button on the trunk and open it while SLeeper remains seated. I understand that the trunk will not open up with a push of a button, but he certainly does not need to get out of the car and unlock the trunk in order for someone to open the trunk? At least not with most MB's and I assume the 129.
