Do I have to use MB Fluids?
I am going to be placing an order for some things and am wondering:
What kind of Anti-Freeze do I need to use for a 98 SL500? Must I actually use M-B brand? Or can it be some regular type brand that I can get at Autozone, etc.? Same question for Power Steering and Brake fluids. Thanks! Doug |

I'd go with the MB stuff in all those areas

My local MB dealer specifically reccommended Dextron III in my power steering. I replaced the filter and fluid (no doubt, for the first time) in my 86 560, 84K. Both filter and fluid looked really bad-black and with suspended junk. Has someone heard otherwise?

For the little bit you will use in a year. Why not spend the big bucks and use the real MB fluids. Might cost an extra $20 this year, but isn't your SL worth it? (and I really do hafta switch my "new" 300SDL over to MB antifreeze soon).
