BobK, the car got new shocks at about 150K miles. The rust repair didn't involve full panel removal, as it was well confined to right around the jacking point--strip, small amount of metalwork, refinish, about $400 or so as I recall.

This is a few months ago. It is getting better and with a little luck I should finsih all major body reconstruction this weekend. Any tips on striping the paint off???

I think it has been a while since we posted a pic of our 87 560SL, we now have another Benz in the stable, a white 91 420sel with blue interior, pics to come soon.

We are slowly gettener done. I inherted this 83 380Sl from my father when he passed away so Not resoting or selling it is out of the question. Had to repair some extensive rust in the trunk and the front valance Replaced both rocker panels. Also replaced both fender skirts with pathc panels.
Hope to have to ready for paint by summer. One thing for sure it has been a fun family project. Last edited by PeteO; 01-27-2005 at 10:24 AM.
