309D engine parts source??

Hi

Does anyone know a parts source for a 1978 309D Mercedes diesel engine - other than the dealer?? It's a 4 cyl, non turbo.

This engine was used in light trucks, Unimog etc.

I do not have a parts x-ref to see if any parts are interchangeable with the usual index systems of our parts suppliers such as Fastlane, which are all arranged by passenger car engines.

I suspect 1978 240D engine parts may do the job??

Looking for normal service items - filters, belts, hoses, thermostat, rocker gasket, possibly injectors, etc.

What is the engine number? I think you are right, it has a 616 which was used in 240Ds, however I suspect there were small changes between the truck and car engine.

Looking at that Mercedes RV?

The add I read said the 309D had a 4 cylinder 3.0 litter engine. I doubt it has a lot in common with the OM61X class, but I have no personal experience with them.

Ask this guy http://www.jefflondon.net/

It is most likely not an OM616 engine. The typical 309d was a version of the 508d chassis and had either the OM 314 or OM 352 engine (I can't remember which). Parts are not that easy to find on this side of the Atlantic. When I had a Mercedes van, I used www.eurocarparts.co.uk. Their commercials division carries lots of MB parts. There are a couple of parts suppliers in the US with the microfiches for MB vans. Europa in Santa Fe had the info at one time and there's a guy in the NW who sells Unimogs and vans who can get parts.
That being said, MB did make a small van with a 90 (hence the xx9 designation) horsepower engine but they were very rare. The engine was the 617na. I owned a 409d. Much more typical were the 207d and 307d which had the 616 engine. When Mercedes put the 616 and 617 in the vans, some parts were not interchangeable with the similar car engines. The IP is different, waterpumps are different, valve covers are different etc. Air filters were different but oil filters were the same.

It's been over 4 years since I used them. They sent me a paper copy of their commercial vehicle parts catalog. I'd call or e-mail them and ask for that catalog. There was one guy who was responsible for their export business when I was buying from them. I think his name was Patrick.

Yes, definitely call them and ask for their export guy. The shipped DHL to me and it was quick. The exchange rate with the British pound is pretty good right now I think.
