FS: 1985 500 SEC parts

lutzTD had first right of refusal on the hood.........I think he's already doesn't want it; you will see why in a minute.

I found this 1985 500SEC in the junkyard yesterday; very busy day yesterday as I got to visit 4 junkyards. Put about 100 miles on the Dodge truck. I didn't pull the hood off of the SEC....I was thinking about you, though, lutzTD.

The back shelf is in good condition; glass is intact; doors are good.

Here are the pics.

That's probably enough of Photobucket pics on that car....

gray, leather, I believe. Rears were okay, driver's seat had some holes, don't remember the passenger side.

I've got to go back -- do you want me to look again for you?

no dont worry, I was hoping they were blue or black. I think I am going to end up paying way too much for a set of black leather ones from ebay, but I have been scouring the yards for a decent set of seats for a year, everytime I find a set some idiot has damged them trying to get another part. I found a perfect set in a volvo yesterday, with a transmission sitting on top of them

Engine fire? Too bad it's gray, not blue inside.

Chris -- It would appear, I would need to get the yard to raise the car off the stands. I think I could persuade them to do that though. I took a couple of more pics today of the rear bumper.

It's amazing how well the bumper seems to have held up considering all the other damage to the car.

1 piece chrome vs 3 pieces chrome

Hi David,

I cannot figure out why some W126 have a 1 piece chrome on the rear bumper (that one on the pictures) while others have a 3 pieces chrome.

My 560 have a 3 pieces chrome and the 2 corners need replacement. I also discovered that a one piece chrome from a SEL wont fit a SEC. I tryed it 3 weeks ago.

My main concern is to determine if a 1 piece chrome comming from a SEC will fit another SEC originally equipped with a 3 pieces chrome without replacing the whole bumper? Any idea?

bests regards

Chris

Well.......would it be because yours is a 560SEC and this is a 500SEC? What year is your 560SEC? OH....is yours a Euro model? I'm just going out on a limb because I know nothing about the coupes.

Post some pics and let's ask someone. I bet there is at least one person on the forum that will be able to tell us.

560 SEC rear bumper

Hi David,

My 560 SEC is a 1991 and it is a "North America" model

Thanks for your answer and here's the result of my reflexion up to now:

All the w126 have a "3 pieces chrome" on the front bumper. The center part of the chrome is different between a SEL and a SEC, but the corner parts look the same (SEL vs SEC)

Question 1: are the corner parts really the same between a SEL and a SEC?

My 420 SEL 1987 have a "one piece chrome" on the rear bumper. There is also a "one piece" on the 500 SEC you are parting out.

On the other hand, my 560 SEC 1991 have a 3 pieces chrome on the rear bumper.

On my picture attached, you can see the bumper of my SEC (equip with a 3 pieces chrome) and the "one piece" chrome comming from a 420 SEL. This "one piece" doesn't fit the bumper of the SEC.

Question 2: a one piece chrome comming from a SEC is it going to fit the bumper of a SEC orginally equipped with a 3 pieces chrome?

Until we find someone with the answers, there is something that I need for sure,: The center chrome part of the front bumper of a 560 SEC (unique to the SEC)

Thanks to everyone

Christian

Actually, Christian. I'm not parting the car; it's in a junkyard here and I was offering to pull parts off of it for any forum member.

560SEC

Sent PM on the 380SE driveshaft; if that one is no good the one from this 500SEC should fit my 500SE as far as length is concerned.
