FS: New Klann KL-0025 coil spring compressor kit

See photos below. This is a brand-new Klann compressor kit! It will work on Mercedes chassis 107, 114, 116, 123, 124, 126, 129, 140, 170, 201, 202, 203, 208, 210, 211, and possibly other Mercedes models as well. This kit works for other makes & models that require a compressor inside the spring, such as Ford, Chrysler, GM, Honda, Acura, etc. The included clamping plates fit coil spring diameters from 3.7 inches to 5.5 inches. You can order larger plates (for up to 7.5 inch springs) from a Klann dealer if you need them. This is also the factory Mercedes tool and all the parts have Mercedes part numbers on them (see below). The same items purchased from your local dealer would be somewhere over $1000 and would NOT include the pretty orange case! I own one of these myself and it is a FANTASTIC tool, much superior (IMO) to the aftermarket copy by Sir Tools. I can pull both the front springs out of my W124 in about 15 minutes with the Klann.

You get:

1) Center shaft (MB part # 202-589-01-31-00, Klann part # KL-0025-100)
1) Pair of size 1 plates (MB part # 202-589-13-63-00, Klann part # KL-0025-1101 and -1102)
1) Pair of size 2 plates (MB part # 202-589-14-63-00, Klann part # KL-0025-1201 and -1202)
1) Carrying case

More details are available at these two links - note that list price is $1000+ and both places want about $800 plus S&H:

So Dave, you own two of them and you are selling this one? I hope you aren't keeping the Sir one, the Klann ones are very nice. It is really worth its weight in gold, it is a very safe and effective tool, I love mine.

Sir vs Klann

Austin,

The Sir Tools compressor is definitely a sketchy device. I used it last weekend on my lower control arm install and I found it to be not the confidence inspiring tool I had hoped for. My conclusion was that the hex head style shaft keys that hold the plates stationary on the shaft were inadequate and allowed for slippage. The Klann system is much different and looks more effective. I wish now that I could have found a Klann to rent instead of the Sir compressor… next time.

Austin, you are correct. I have another Klann which I am keeping. It really is a great tool. I never owned the Sir compressor but I did rent it once a few years ago, and I was NOT impressed with the design.

Jon, I agree with what you state - the Sir is a poor design, IMO, and I had trouble getting the hex flats to seat. I was told that Sir redesigned the tool in the last year or three and while the new version still uses hex flats, it's better than the original. Don't know how true that is. But with the Sir compressor costing ~$550 plus S&H, you'd be a lot better off getting the Klann for the extra fifty bucks! Why not buy mine and start renting it out yourself?

Hey Dave,

That is right, now I remember. You rented the SIR tools one. Ok, I am glad you have a Klann spring compressor for yourself and one to sell.

You are offereing a great price right now.

Austin

Dave,

That would be a smart idea, but it sounds like Tim beat me to it! I'm not sure whether the one I rented was old or redesigned, it did slip however.

I have another one for sale, same price, same deal... email me if anyone is interested! I heard from Tim and he seems pretty happy with his new Klann. It really is the "Mercedes" of coil spring compressors!

I received the Klann from Dave last week - its a very impressive piece of work. The compression plates have some very complicated maching work, its pretty clear why its so expensive.

I can remove a spring from a W124 in about 10 minutes in total safety.

It's worth the money.

UPDATE: This Klann compressor has been long gone, sold back in 2004 when the thread was posted. I just received a question about it, sorry I forgot to update this thread at the time, ooops.

I occasionally have an SPX compressor kit for sale, made by Klann, click here for details. It does not include the large compression plates or the carry case. It does fit through the chassis hole in the W123 without cutting / grinding, unlike the cheap Chinese clones.
