tyre pressures
Hi I have a 1995 E280 and I have just fitted 205x55x16 tyres on 7 rims, does anyone know the correct pressures. The pressures shown in the fuel filler cover refer to the original size 195 x15.
thanks Alan |

Go to Tire Rack's charts and compare the data
in the Spec subsite -- if, for instance, both sizes happen to be rated "88" by the European system of load ratings, then you might want to try the same pressures as the filler lid specifies (although I'm always happier with the handling with 3 or 4 pounds more pressure), but if your new tires have a lower E-code load number, you definitely need more pressure. In general, lower profile tires may be designed for a bit higher pressures with the same weight, though.

50bchep:
If it is any help, the new W203's come with just such a tire and wheel, and factory recommended pressure is 30 psi front and 32 psi in rear. However, like the man said, I'm much happier with 34 psi all around. I know nothing about the European system. In the US, my tires are "H" speed rated (up to 130 mph or about 210 kph) and all H rated tires here state a maximum cold pressure of 35 psi on the sidewall. Thanks, Richard |
