What type of finish is on 1998 C230 wheels and how do you remove it?
I am thinking of refinishing some stock 1998 C230 wheels myself. I have done a decent job with just paint on some Porsche wheels. Some of the Porsche wheels are anodized which must be removed. I am wondering what type of finish is on the benz wheels. With the Porsche wheels Oven cleaner and sanding got me to the point that I could repaint them.

I have a slightly damaged 1998 C230 original wheel, has a lage paint chip near the tip of the rim.
If you tell me what to look for, layers of finishng, colors of layers, base metal, maybe it will tell you what you need to know. When I look at the damaged portion; I see a thin outer coat that flakes off easily, this outter coat is the original color of the wheel, underneath that top coat is a lighter colored second coat - could that be primer?, and then underneath those two coats is the very shiney base metal. |
