Widening rear wheel wells on a 92 400E?
Thinking of widening the rear wheel wells on a 92 400E to accomdate 8" tires
currently have the 500E fenders in front, so no problems in that area. Anyone on this list ever do this? Saw a AMG mod a while back to this but can no longer find the link. |

I assume you mean 8 inch wide wheels, not tires. I have 16x8 inch wheels on my 300CE with no fender modifications needed.

TUBS!!!
Sorry, had to do it. I believe that the AMG mod you're referring to was actually used on the front fenders; they basically just put some extra washers behind the mounting points to push them out. I've seen quite a few w124's running 8" wide wheels, probably just need to pay close attention to the wheel offset.

Wheel well mods
Thanks for the info, the CE model has a wider wheel well clearnce than other 124s, so that explains why you can run the 8" wide tires.
Note Due to the enlarged rear production wheelhouse inner panels, the use of an angled bracket as described in 4.1 is not necessary on model 124.061 (300CE-24 Cabrio). Found the link I was refereing to below: http://www.meimann.com/docs/mercedes/AMG_wheel_install_01.pdf There is a mod to the rear wheel well, although it looks a little hard to do I don't have access to any welding equipment. |
