Offset tutorial needed
Hi all. I need an advise in wheel offsets for MB. I have an opportunity to purchase a set of OEM AMG wheels off a 2002 S430 and I would like see if these would fit my 1990 SL. I think the offset for these wheels are 42 but my OEM offset is 25. Im not very well versed in this area and a little confused. So, would a wheel with 25 offset stick out more than a 42 offset? If I really want to fit a 42 offset wheel, would I then have to add a 17 mm spacer to achieve the same fitment as a 25? Likewise, would a 35 mm wheel offset need a 10 mm spacer to achieve the 25 mm fitment. I apologize for the elementary questions but as I said, I am not too familiar in this area. Thanks in advance.

There are online "offset calculators" and articles on the web. Give Google a try.
Generally, when dealing with positive number offset . . . the bigger number means that the mounting face of the rim is farther away from the centerline of the rim and will pull the wheel face closer to the center of the car, while the smaller numbers push it further away from the center of the same car.. |
