My 300TD-T with factory wheels... or Ronals?

...just wondering about others' thoughts... my '84 Euro 300TD-T came equipped with the rare factory 15" wheels w/ hubcaps, but I was able to recently get a set of these coveted classic Ronal 16" R9 Pentas and I have mounted them today.

Makes the wagon look sportier IMO, but at least the Ronals are still correct for its era... However, I am still in favor of either the factory steel wheels w/ hubcaps or the retro-classic Bundts.

I also have a set of 15" factory BBS rims from the 80's specifically for the w123's as well as the mega-rare 15" Bundts (but installing these other 2 sets can wait though...as I don't have tires yet...)

So whatcha think?

BEFORE with the rare factory 15" wheels w/ hubcaps:

AFTER with the retro-sporty Ronal 8x16 ET11 R9 Pentas:

I’m jealous. The pentas look great! But it looks good either way.

Sits a little high on the R9s, don't you think?

The T123 also looks good with those 8-spoke Ronals from the early 80s. I can't find a pic just now but they look like flattened Panasports.

The Pentas look just awful. I think you should sell them to me. I'll even throw in an extra 5 bucks over what you paid for them since you're my friend.

Cheers,

Bill

FYI: ...yep, it sits a tad high because my wagon came equipped with the factory optional HD suspension - hence, higher stance, firmer springs & suspension pieces, etc... amongst other options. This Euro-spec wagon isn't like most US-version wagons out here.

Plus the 16" tires mounted are 225/50 series - I think it would be better with 215/60/16 or 225/60/16... Constructive criticism is always helpful... Thanks!!

I usually don't like aftermarket wheels on 123s/116s, but those OK. I do think it sits a little high now, but to lower it properly would probably be BIG $$$.

Those wheels would probably look GREAT on an SL, SLC, or CD from the same era.... Might be a bit too sporty for a wagon, but they're growing on me a little....

Sorry man but I've gotta vote for the factory hubcaps. Maybe with smaller tires and lowered a little bit my opinion would be different.

Wow, it just doesn't get much better than your wagon looked with the steel wheels and hubcaps!
It also doesn't look much worse than with the Ronals! Really! Very high school "my car is jacked up" look. You have too rare a bird to pimp it and ruin it! (gee, but what do I really think)

Oh no... like what I stated in my opening thread - I, too, prefer the original 15" hubcaps or Bundts (preferably the rare 15" Bundts). I was just experimenting with these Ronal Pentas... I will likely and eventually return it into stock condition sooner or later. You're absolutely correct (as far as personal opinions go) that these R9's totally changes the image - but it does look more sporty/retro-classic with the R9's if you see it in person... and the original hubcaps differ by giving it that factory nostalgic look...

Hey, check this site out - speaking of "jacked-up w123 cars from the past"... and these are factory AMG tuner cars!! AMG Classics

This cool site has lots of modified MB's from the past such as this:

Al, I like the Ronal's, but the matched look of the color coordinated painted hubcaps is just gorgeous, IMHO.

me likey!

but you already knew that.

Only thing that concerns me is waking up one morning and finding my car on blocks. I don't live in a great part o' town and I hafto park on the street... not sure if the kidz these days would be interested in my 'lame' 15 inchers. I'd be more concerned if I was ridin' on dubs.

w/ et23 I used the lug bolts from the stocker alloy bunts... the bolt head is sunk far in the wheel...Still I found some lug locks that I'm seriously considering.

Alfie, great experiment! Simple change brought about the sportiness of the wagon.

what size are the 15" tires?

it looks to me as if the car has taller springs to go with the 15" wheels. a setup that might be ordered in a place with poor roads.

if you decide to go with the other wheels i would be interested in buying the 15" wheels and hubcaps.
