Question HELP!!! 18inch 8x5 on 95 Mercedes E320

Hello,

I'm planning to buy 18inch 8x5 rims for my 95 E320, I called couple places they told me I could only put 225/40/18 for front and rear. Does Anyone know If bigger tires will fit? Could I have:::

front 225/40/18
rear 255/40/18 ???

Any suggestions? PLEASE HELP!

18x8.5 seems wide for a w124. I have 18x8 Mono IIs and had to roll the fenders. I also run 225/40 tires and cant imagine running anything wider. Theres my 2 cents!

My two cents would burn your ears, so I'll only give you one cents worth. About the only thing that could hurt that car more would be to drive over it with an M1A1.

stevebfl: burn our ears please! Is there anything wrong with running wider than stock tires? Granted, the sizes he has listed is MUCH larger. But lets say for instance, you wanted to run 205, 215, or 225 widths - is there something wrong with that?

Yes, it's a 500e and the front fenders are a bit wider than the stock e320/300e but the car is a bit lower as well so clearance issues would even out I would think. Wheels are 8.25" wide.

No you have ALOT more clearance front and REAR than a standard E320 300e body style. You may be able to go a little wider in the rear if you dont drop it, but if you lower it like mine you are stuck at 225 width tires.

I have read where you shouldn't put more than a 7.5 rim on a 300E.... i recently purchased some 16x 7.5 rims... when i get around to it..i am goign to get 205-55 tires...

The 500E in the pic comes with the fenders rolled and can accept a wider tire/wheel combo than the 300E or 320E. This is especially true for the front.

I did a lot of research and read countless threads in the "Tire & Wheel" forum before I made the decision to swap my rims/tires. Here's what I found and tried:

18"s will fit the 300-series W124 if the front fenders are rolled, but with no suspension or body mods, 17" x 7.5 is as large as you can get. You can stagger to a wider wheel in the rear though, but if you want to rotate tires, stick with the same tire/wheel combo all the way around.

To keep the OEM profile, tires should be a 45-series. Very narrow sidewall though. You can try a 50-series but they WILL rub when cornering, braking, and hitting bumps. Don't even think of dropping the chassis with a 50-series tire either.

I kept the stock ride height on mine so far, and this is how a 17", 7.5" wide rim with 45-series tires looks on my W124:

So far from what I've read I will stick with 225/40/18 front.
But I'm not sure about the rear what do you guys think.?

Will 235/40/18 fit on the rear... Thats for a 95 E320. I have no suspension mods on my car.

235/40/18 should be fine for the rear. Your fronts fender lips will have to be rolled a bit to do 225/40/18, (given that it's probably an 8" wide rim). What is your wheel offset? 35mm is OEM. Anything outside of that will give you serious rubbing issues at the shock towers and/or fenders.
