a little more info would help. using stock rims? you want your speedo to read correctly?
factory sizes are 175/80 14 on a 5.5" wide wheel. this wheel will take the optional 195/70/14 tire as a factory option. wider tires will fit the wheel and work with the speedo as long as the profile lowers as the tire gets wider. probably up to a 205/60 or so before you start having real trouble. personally i always loved the sweet way the 240s ride and steer with the skinney 175s on them. of course they are the cheapest too but are getting tough to find. tom w

240D is so underpowered it would be a shame to install bigger, heavier tires/wheels and make it even slower yet.
There's absolutely no advantage to doing so unless you happen to like the look. Of course, all show and no go might be the signature of this car in any event.

with as high as the 240s rev on the hiway, I'd put on the largest tire I could (if you can't start moving on a steep incline then thet're too big) to lower the rpms at cruising speed. But I do spend most of my time on the hiway.
