16" 8-holes on a 124

So it's time to get new tires, and I want to go to 16" 8-hole wheels to replace the stock 15" 15-holes. I see tons of the W140 51mm offset wheels out there, but I'm not sure they'll fit on a 124 which uses an offset in the 40's. I did some research and didn't find much conclusive information on whether they'll fit without modification or spacers.

They'll be going on a '90 300D 2.5T. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tire recommendations would also be nice

More searching has yielded even more confusion. Seems that the W140 16" 8-hole won't work. Did MB even make a 16" 8-hole that works on a 124? The offset for the SL wheels (124 401 14 02) is about perfect but they're 8" wide...is that too wide with the ET34 offset?

I'm pretty sure the only 16" 8-hole alloys that work on the 124 are those that came on the 500e/e500. The 140 chassis 16" 8-hole versions don't work, as you've discovered.

Dale -- I can atleast confirm that 16" 8-holes from a 500E will fit since I am running some rioght now on a 300E. They are wide but I have had no rubbing at all with 225/50 tires. I happen to have extras now since I bought some forged CLK wheels to use. I could sell four or five of the 500E 8-holes if you wish. Shipping is often the killer though -- probably $120 or so for the bunch of them.

I'll bet the SL wheels, at eight inches, with a 34 offset would look goofy and creat contact with the body. I think the offset on the 500E wheels is 47. Will go look at them again if you interested.

the w140 wheels wont work for your w124

They did make w124 16x8 wheels, the 500E, or R129 SLs.

I have two wheels, if you can find the other two you are golden.

Email me if you want those two.

My friend is selling some 190E Evo I wheels, which would probably fit really nice. he will ship them if you are a motivated buyer meaning pay quickly, etc.

To clarify an earlier post of mine -- the 500E wheels are 34 ET -- so my "goofy" comment from above was, itself, goofy.

I was thinking about doing that. I'll take some this weekend. The weather's been not the best for photos and I was out of town last week, otherwise I would have done some sooner. They look great; they might be a little wide but it makes the car look lower and more substantial. I can see how the flared fenders of the 500E work well with this combo. I've got Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires on them now (225/50-16) which replaced the Energy MXV4+ tires on the stock 15-holes. So far so good!

Awesome!

As soon as I get the 5-speed 124 back from the paint shop it is getting the euros, clear corners, and black-out grill installed.

Fine looking diesel, Dale!!

Re: regi;ar 124 fot,emt///

Couple things: Just because they will bolt up ("fit"), doesn't necessarily mean they will "work". As you know, the factory is always extremely conservative in thier estimates on firment. They were at the time concerned with clearance, tire/brake/and bearing wear. I'd be happy to sell them to anyone who might like to use them, but just don't want someone to think I gave them bad advice. And yes, if you see these on 124, they are most frequently from a 140. Real forged 500E wheels are much tougher to come by.

And don't mean to be difficult, or petty.....but if someone has other wheels to sell like these, it's not real courteous to hijack my thread to sell your own stuff. A mention is one thing, pictures of your wheels and an offer to sell is a bit....cheezy. No big deal, just fair play. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Ummm, huh?

If you read this thread, Dale and kpb were discussing fit of the stock 500E ET34 wheels on a 124, as in your thread, A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, and there are even photos of them fitting! This is excellent information for larry as he was asking if your wheels would fit a 124, ...

No good deed goes un-punished.

Sorry. No harm intended...

I looked at this at 5AM yesterday, so maybe I wasn't too sharp. If I was out of line, sorry.
To make sure I'm clear, I think these will bolt up to a normal 124, but will be a bit outside of the fender line, as the pictures indicate. Just take car on bearing and clearance issues. Yes, I will break down the tires, no, I don't have lugs.
Thanks.
