1987 300TDT Wheels - 15" AMG vs 16" CLK?
Ive got both sets: 15" AMG wheels from a 1997 c230 Sport I think it is, and 16" CLK Wheels. Which ones should I get tires for and put on?
Here is my wagon with the AMG wheels, which have worn 205/60/15s. They should be 65s. Here is another 124 wagon with them: And here is a post of them on misc Benzs: Post pics of w123's with CLK wheels Tell me what you think and why!!

I have other favorites for styling, we all will, but I'd go with the 16s just because they're 16s and stick some nice 215s on them.

Will 215s fit without rubbing in the front? 215/55/16s? I wonder what that looks like?

There was a "post photos of your T124" type thread running a couple of months ago, several wheel photos there if you can find it.

The CLK wheels are a good choice, and I think they are very light weight. I'm not sure how wide they are though, which is a consideration.
I see more of the AMG wheels than I do the CLK wheels, which would be a consideration for me. I would pick the ones that I see less often. steve a

A matter of personal choice
The salient points expressed here are:
1. 16" over 15" 2. Easy to clean 3. Appearance is a personal choice item I am getting ready to install a set of 16" 10-spoke wheels with Michelin Primacy tires on my '87 300D (W124, OM603). Since my '96 E300D (W210, OM606) has identical wheels, in an emergency I can do a swap. Not everyone likes the looks (but that's their problem). I would have preferred the 8-spoke version but this is what came along. Jeremy

I think you should sell me those AMGs for my 87 wagon and put the 16s on your car. I'm only half joking. PM me if you wanna sell

But if I had a choice between AMG wheels and those, I'd go with AMG Monoblock II just because they look more proper. I know they're supposed to belong on the next generation of MB's (w202/w201/w140) but they just look right on the older generation (w201/w124/w126). How about these AMG's? Or Carlsson 1/6?

It's been a while, they're definitely shorter than the standard W124 lugs though. Make sure you've got the ball type (not conical) IIRC.
Don't have the car with me as this is my mother's.

Does anyone have the specs on the CLK wheels? Are they 7" or 7.5"? Now I am debating whether I should get 205s or 215s...but I do not want rubbing.

I'd go with the CLK wheels. They are 16x7.0 ET37 and weigh 14.5 pounds each. With a light tire (21-22 lbs new), you could end up with a total of about 36-38 lbs, which is great. Heavier tires will be 25-26 lbs each. Check the specs. The reduced weight really does make a noticeable difference.
BTW, for a 15x7.0 wheel, the correct size would be 205/60/15, so you do have the right tires on that wheel. The proper size for the 16x7.0 is 205/55/16 and that's what I run on mine, however a 215/55/16 would also be acceptable. MB puts that on a 7.5 wheel, however. If your tire section width starts getting wider than the wheel, the steering response won't be quite as sharp, as the tire will move around a bit more on the wheel. 215 is really the limit on a 7.0 wheel, IMO. There should be little,if any rubbing issues with these setups, although you may have to roll the fender lips lightly. You get into clearance problems when you get past 8.0 wide up front, or 8.5 in the rear, and/or the wrong offsets. |

most if not all their wheels are marked on the inside for width. both wheels are ugly, but then almost all MB wheels are butt ugly. the clk's are very light, and that outweighs any cosmetic considerations.
