Michelin Primacy MXV4 Tires

My tires had plenty of tread, but were pretty old and were Hercules or some such off brand. Noisy and harsh.

I just had a set of Primacy MXV4 tires installed. It's like driving a new car. Very quiet on the highway, and a great ride. Not cheap though. I paid almost $730.

Yikes ! What car and where did you buy them for?

Tirerack.com has them priced at $452 for a set in W126 size.

These are for my '96 W210.

I got them from a local tire chain that I often patronize. The price comes with mounting, road hazard warranty, rotating and rebalancing. They also took my best old tire and put it on my spare.

Tire Rack has the same tire for $126, or $504 total. Considering the lack of hassle going to the store, I don't intend to start mail-ordering tires any time soon. Two bills isn't enough to be worth the extra effort.

Still, I like the tires, even if I've only put ten miles on them. You'll like them just as much for five bills as for seven.

I have a set on my 15 inch rims from a w126. I really love them. Best tires I've had on any MB I've owned.

My 1st set of Primacy's yielded 73K miles and probably had more to go! My everyday driver is enjoying the 2nd set. Well worth the money in my opinion, keep them rotated and aired up properly.

I even put a set of Michelin M/S's on the Jeep Cherokee, what a difference!!

I put Primacy HP tires on my '87 300D Turbo (W124, OM603) six months ago. They are great tires. The compound is very sticky and the car handles great; the tires won't give the high miles of the other types but I don't drive a lot anyway. The Primacy HP is also not rated for any kind of snow but it's unlikely that the car will ever see snow. I let my mechanic get the tires and do the mount and balance. This cost more (about $700) but gave me the opportunity to clean up the rims.

I've had the Primacy MXV4 on both 124 and 210 chassis cars. It's a great all around passenger car tire. It combines competent driving/handling, good tread life, reasonable snow/rain handling, and is very, very smooth and quiet. Highly recommended.

Primacy MXV4

I got a set some months ago. Not cheap, however I have no buyers remorse. These tires totally changed the feel of my TD for the better. I'm SO glad I bit the bullet and spent the extra money. I couldn't be more pleased. If they last even half the warranty mileage, I'll buy sets until I croak, stop driving, or the car dies. I'm even trying a set on my Jag XJS next month. They handle well, even in rain. Smooth quiet ride. I had previously runToyo Proxes on the TD. The Primacy MXV4 is a MUCH more comfortable tire that handles well enough to try on the XJS even.

The MXV4's are very common on these... I'm looking to get a new set for my w126... does anybody have any other tire suggestions or any negatives about them (other than them being a little expensive)?

Shop around and do a price match. What I was able to do was a price match and simply asked for free roadside, it worked!! Of course, this was my 7th or 8th set of tires from this particular store but hey!

Let me add another favorable recommendation for Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires. I have been very pleased with their ride and handling on our 1995 E320.

Primacy MXV4 are made in the USA and AFAIK are sold nowhere else in the world, save probably Canada. Still an OK tire, of course.

MXV4's on 1997 E420

Bought them at Costco in May of 2007 for about $570. Probably have about 30K on them (tough to say for sure since I always put two snow tires on the rear in the winter). They have lots of tread left. Really nice riding tire on this vehicle, though I recently drank the kool aid and put four ice tires (Dunlop Graspix) on for the winter.

Continental has a great new tire, the Extreme Contact DWS. Great foul-weather traction, 95W service rating, 540 wear rating. I've had them for about 15,000 miles and they're wearing great. Tire Rack classifies them as ultra high performance all-season, but to me they ride like a grand touring tire. The downside: you need 16 inch wheels.

Maki--did you run the Conti's all winter? It would be great to find a solid all-season tire for use in the lake-effect snow belt. Thanks.
