Update ... Yoko AVS Db's
I now have approx. 4K miles on the full set of AVS Db's on my 400e. I can not find a single issue to bring up. They are the best tire match to car I have ever experienced. Unbelievably quiet on any pavement surface ... what rumble strips? Crisp turn in, great traction ... dry or wet. They hold pressure very consistently.
I just returned from a 700 mile trip that gave me lots of varied conditions. Wet, dry, some light snow ... performed flawlessly. Did extended periods above 85 mph ... some 10-15 mile stretches above 95. No hunting from the front end, freeway lane changes almost imperceptible, great tractionm and stability. Even had a couple of isolated incidences of drama ... heavy breaking from far above legal speeds ... the car was true, under control and at all times as predictable as you 'd ever want and beyond expectation. From a Pirelli P7 and then PZero shod 930 to a '69 Goodyear Bluestreak Z28 this is by far the best balance of car/tire I've ever experienced price regardless. At under $80 a wheeel out the door, I can't imagine a better tire match for an E-Class car than this. The only variable for a tempered opinion is the wear factor. My judgement is if I get anything over 25K miles from the tire it is an unqualified winner. Will update as we roll towards that number. I love these tires on this car ... a '92 400e. |

I too have the Yoko AVS db tires. I love them and i do agree that they are the best match for a stock 124 wheel. And what value mine were $63 w/o shipping. I will never buy a set of Michelins again.

Sure Ill fill you in.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?startIndex=0&width=205%2F&ratio=60&diameter=15&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemar k=1&manufacturer=Yokohama I got them for Tire Rack before they raised there prices ![]() But I also got the cheapest size that the ds's come in, and not to mention the best size for the stock 124 wheel, 205-60-15. I called around and the cheapest I could get them was $93 and when I talked to the guys they were like "why do you want that tire I have never heard of them, whats so good about them" then they would try to convince me to get one of there crapy expensive tires. At this point I had made up my mind that the only tire I was going to get would be the db's so I just got them from Tire Rack, and I am very happy w/ the tires and Tire Rack. As far as getting the tires through a middle man, I would stay away from that that is where (as you know) the prices go up. Subman

I purchased my 205/60/15's from a local independent tire shop. They do a TON of wholesale business with a high percentage of the local car dealers. The way I approached the purchase was to take the best price I could find online add to that a reasonable mount/balance/stems/sales tax etc. allowance. I started calling every store in the yellow pages. Told them I want to buy only a set of Yoko AVS dB's and I want to pay $78 including EVERYTHING. I got quotes from $110 a tire on down until I found my guys ... $80 a wheel ... out the door ... done deal. Happy camper. me.

I purchased my set from Discount Tire direct. www.tires.com I paid $68 each for 205/60/VR15. I have an '86 8v 190E, so I bought a set of OEM 16v to handle the extra width. They are very sticky wet or dry.
Whichever tire you get it is an absolute must to have them ridematched. You can find someone in your area by looking on the Hunter website. This crazy $15,000 Hunter machine shows the installer exactly where to mount the tire on the rim and exactly where to place the weights. |

My daughter has about 6,000 miles on her AVS Dbs on her 420SEL, which we also use as our road car to keep the miles down on the leased cars and take advantage of the S-class's legendary highway prowness. Last weekend we took a one-day round trip from Charlotte to Raleigh in an all-day driving rain -- no problems whatsoever with traction, hydroplaning, etc. Tires don't show any signs of wear and handling has been excellent -- great choice for a V-rated tire.
