I have the original wheels on my 450 SL and have the clear coat turning yellow & peeling. I have removed all of the coating I can with several methods, but have been unable to get it all off.
Does anybody have any idea what I can do to remove the remaining yellow coating to prepare my wheels for refinishing? Also, I currently have P195/75R-14 tires on these wheels, but I do not think they are the original size(my speedometer is slow). Does anybody know if I should have a larger size(maybe a 205/70 R-14)? Thanks for the help. Don Solomon Durango, CO |

Our body shop uses regular paint stripper to do the job and sand paper where that won't work. Don't leave the stuff on the Aluminum for long periods of time (an hour or more). And please dispose of the mess appropriately.
Both the silver and the clear will have to be reapplied so preparing it as any other metal surface will apply. The proper tire size was 205/70-14. The tire size you are using should have about the same diameter so I wouldn't expect much difference in the speedo. ------------------ Steve Brotherton Owner 24 bay BSC Bosch Master, ASE master L1 26 years MB technician [This message has been edited by stevebfl (edited 04-24-2000).] |
