40mm Offset Wheels on a 123 Chassis?

Does anyone know off the top of their head if a 40mm offset wheel will fit a 123 chassis?

Thanks!

Ray

You neglect to give the diameter.

but in any case, it's not likely , since the stock is ET 30, and anything reaching farther inward is likely to interfere with the tierod end, unless the wheel is of a really large diameter, like 18" or more. Even then, moving the wheel centerline inward by 10mm relative to the steering axis will do strange things to the road feel.

Actually the width of the wheel is important also, as the lager offset moves the wheels inward. Most of the modern wheels are wider than the original 14x6.5 ones, so a 16x7 wheels with a 30mm offset would sit not 5 mm deeper, but 11(+differnce in wheel width/2).

Anybody knows how much room we got to spare between the inner side of the front wheel and the tie-rod?

You really cant get away with anything over 30 ET, no matter what the rim size. Stock ET is 25, not 30 IIRC.

i'm testing out a set of 18's on my CD at the moment, staggered size, but if i remember, the rears are ET32- the tires are 275/35's, and fit with a little modification.

tried to fit a 16x7.5et40 on the 240 today.. no go.
cannot find a single set of stock 16"s that will fit the 123.
has anyone figured out how to deal with the hub dust cap clearance not being deep enough for the wheel dust cap?

a little bit of glue works well for me... maybe velcro would work better, they only stick out a little....

the only 16's i found to fit a 123 are the early (01-02) 7 spoke 203 wheels, i assume the double 5spoke of the same vintage would fit as well.

I have Ronal R9 wheels on my W123 wagon. They are 16 x 8 with and offset of ET11. The wider the wheel, the smaller the offset has to be. There are also the AMG Penta wheels that will fit the W123's.
