17x7.5 17x8.5 on 300E?

Does anyone know if the 17 inch staggered wheels from the clk430 will fit my 300E,with no rubbing problems?

Depends on the offset. Give us the ET numbers from both wheels. The 7.5 up front should be fine if the offset is correct. An 8.5 on the rear, with the PERFECT offset and tire size (probably 235 or 245 max), *should* work but you will need to massively roll the fender lips. Details are here:

The front will be OK, may need a light fender roll if you corner hard. The rear WILL rub. If you roll the fender lips as described in that PDF I posted above, the rears will work, but you MUST roll the fender lip...!!!!

Rear will fit with a fender roll. I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall here.

thanks for the info gsxr

I appreciate the help guys, I am now leaning towards rolling my fenders. DR ///AMG has one nice e320, I wish that I could come across a set of 18x8 at a good price. My car would look "18" times better.

30 offset is just too crazy on the W124!

I have 18x8 ET34, and with all fenders rolled, front fender shaved and body cladding cut, it works.

But then again my car is lowered. But if you lower yours, then forget about it, you're gonna rip your 1/4 panel off in a second!

and Mike, thanks for the comments. I suggest you take a look at bekker's (www.bekkers.com) line of replica wheels. they are the most true to original that I have ever seen, and are relatively cheap!

What do you mean when you say "front fender shaved"?? How much did you lower your car?

I have H&R springs, Bilstein sport shocks, stock #2 pads in front, went from #3 to #1 pads in the rear.

My shop, TWS, did some shaving int he corner of the front fender where the fender and bumper meet, using some sort of a rotating disc (a la dremel) and sparks went flying and all that .

Before lowering, in the front at least, I could fit my whole hand (just 4 fingers). Now, I can't even fit a finger

Variations

If there is anything i've learned, its that not all w201 are the same, not all w124 are the same, etc. While an 88 190E 2.6 might fit 17x8s, a 93 190E 2.3 might not.

So same applies to a w124.

8.5s are a stretch. If you feel daring, get them and then try.

I've gone through an incredible amount of wheels:

Stock OEM
OEM Sportline
OEM E420 8-hole polished
OEM SLK Staggered wheels
16x7.5 ATP Replicas
17x7.5 Monoblocks
17x7.5 E430 Sport Wheels

So you get the idea

the 16x8 ET30s that I had were barely clearing.

Good Luck, experiment, and if it don't work...o well.

I still have the same principle with my M3. Ask Luke, I' crazy enough to try and squeeze 285/30/18s in the back

Remember guys, up front Mike wants to fit 7.5's and those will fit easily with the proper tire size (225/45/17). I wouldn't attempt an 8.5 up front either. The 18x8 ET34 is technically the wrong offset, it's out too far. I have 17x8 ET38 and have minimal clearance problems. Those ET34 wheels have lots of room in by the strut and not enough at the fender- they should have been ET38 or ET39, I think. My car is lowered about 1.5 inches (measures 13.75 inches from fender lip to wheel cap center). Here's a shot of the front wheel:

http://www.meimann.com/images/mercedes/87_300D_blue/tires_top_front.jpg

http://www.meimann.com/images/mercedes/87_300D_blue/tires_side_front.jpg

I had to roll the fender lip to stop the rubbing, but it's fine now. A 7.5 up front with the proper offset would be better. I didn't have to roll the rears but with wider tires (235) that might be necessary. Doc's car is VERY low... looks cool but can get annoying on a daily driver when you constantly have clearance problems with speed bumps, driveway entrances, etc... I gave up on the "slammed" look except on a show car (just my $0.02).
