Sorry 'bout this, I know this question has been asked a million times, but I still don't get it!?!?

For a '95 M-B E420, the OE wheel are 195/65R15. So when you up-size your wheels, you want to retain the same overall wheel diameter. SOOO:

195/65R15=24.9803149606
225/45R17=24.9724409449
215/45R17=24.6181102362

So by just lookin' at the calculations, wouldn't 225/45R17 be a better size to match my OE tire size than 215/45R17? Why does everybody (including TireRack) recommend the latter? Just wonderin'...225/45R17 WILL work right? NO problems? I just want a purely size/fitting/no rubbing reply. The performance comparison between the two sizes don't really concern me right now. Thanx a lot!

For what I told, 225/45 would stick out more and require fender rolled. 215/45 just right and no rubbing (even lowered). That's the front only.

225/45/17 is the correct size. 215/45/17 is way too small in my opinion. Rides too harsh with not enough rubber. 225 MAY require a fender roll, but is well worth it. This is the way to go to 17s, correctly.

The 225's are not recommended because they will rub without an aggressive fender lip roll.
Thanks, Luke
