WHY do I need snow tires vs. all seasons??!!

I have a 300e and live in Chicago. Isn't there an all season tire that is better in the snow than other all seasons?

Nokian WR....take it from someone who drives 6+ months a year in the snow!

dedicated winter tires are better in the snow, ice and cold than any all-season tire ..... that's why ... but, if you must use an all-season tire I like the Sport 5000's

Mike: The Nokians are on my wife's ML, which is the car we use most in snowy weather. I run Pilot Alpins on the E500 as a dedicated winter tire.

Mike - not sure how much snow you get in Chicago, but up here in Canada, I don't drive my 300E without good snows. I wouldn't use an all-season in the winter, even a new one. As they are designed to handle multiple environmental conditions, they're not designed specifically for a single season's conditions - as snow tires are - and hence don't perform anywhere near as well as snows do in the winter.

I use Toyo Oberserve snow tires - they're excellent. Nokians are also very good. My $0.02.
