Use of my remote unlock key button occasionally results in a no-start condition. I am told it is time to replace the all-activites module but that it will have to be programmed. Is this critter located under the fuse panel? If I can program it myself, how do I do it. I imagine there is a stated procedure for techs like turn the ignition on, press and hold the remote button for three Adolfs and start the car but I can't get a manual so I'm asking you.

Mmmm, doesn't really sound like this is the problem. The remote unlock feature is kind of a seperate system from DAS, which is what would keep the engine from starting.
At any rate the AAM is both ordered by VIN plus it would require the SDS Mercedes shop computer to program it and to get the keys to work.

The fuller story is that I went into a local shop that had a stars computer for confirmation that my air mass sensor had died. The first tech was not the owner and had disconnected the throttle by the time he went to lunch-2 hours into the one hour procedure. The owner came by, made it right, and only charged me for the hour. I replaced the air mass sensor, the check engine light went out and I got my power back. (without paying for adaptation or the replacement of a transmission valve assembly)
A week later the car turned over butrefused to start untill I found the master key. I had the rf chip in a key fail previously and the symptom is starting but refusal to run for over a second.
So I got out the computer diagnosis and here is what it says:"B1703 transponder:error whe writing programmable code, B1703 The transponder cannot be read,B1040 CAN bus: fault in communicatio: ICM, B1040 CAN bus: fault in communicatio:VG, B1858 The two-way radio signal: The programmed code is ok, but the programmable code is not synchronized." I changed the batteries and got out the old remote but still have the problem every few days and only the master will start it.
So, I went back to the owner of the shop and asked if the tech who disconnected my throttle might have messed with my locking computer. He said no, I needed an all activities module for $150 plus $200 in programming.
Well, I just don't like the dealer but the shop with the star computer hasn't secured my confidence as yet. What do you think? Also, what is the DAS system or whatever the acronym was that you used??

DAS is driver authorization system, it's what "decides" if it's OK to start the engine.
If it won't start once in awhile, but the other key will start it, then I'd say that one key is bad, the system obviously is fine if another key allows it to start. eBay keys wilkl NOT work, they are ordered by chassis number. It will require a shop computer to get the unlocking feature to work when you get the new key. although no programming is required to start the engine.

I just got registered so am new to this forum. My problem is quite similar to this thread but i need some answers to a few questions. The ML320 shows two codes namely B1703 Transponder: Programmed code OK., Programmable code invalid. And also, P1570 Fault in DAS to engine control module (A61)
After much test using Compact3 Star, it tested the AAM and said its ok, the Immo too is ok but says the Tested key is faulty. Can this be repaired or muct i have to get a replacement? Must it be VIN bought or i can buy any? thanks

Yes, the key must be purchased thru a MB dealer & they are VIN specific.

It seems that MB can't get the AAM issue resolved. Just got our 01 ML320 out of the shop after experiencing intermitant remote door locking & alarm issues. Using the remote, one key might or might not operate the locks while our second key would work fine. The icing on the cake was the fact that the alarm would start going off for no reason--even IN our garage.

Our service writer told me that MB no longer uses an "AAM". Don't know if these functions have been decentralized or if they are simply calling the module by another name. This is our second M-Class and both have had numerous AAM replacements. I just cannot figure out why MB can't get their act together on this issue.

My question is this: Does the AAM have anything to do with the function of the fuel guage? Since getting our caqr back, the fuel guarge has been acting MORE squirrely than normal. Our last fill-up was 50-75 miles sooner than what has been normal. My wife reported that the guage seem to drop like a rock.
