BAS/ESP Light

First and foremost...May all readers have a very prosperous 2005....Next...as the subject indicates, the BAS/ESP light came on and has stayed on since Dec 26th of last year. See, this past week I was in the Upper Peninsula (Michigan) at our cottage. We had a bit over 1.5' of snow. So I decided to put the ML on Low Range (two track to get to the cottage). On one trip to the city I turned the Low Range off and the BAS/ESP light came on. When I went back to the Low Range the light stayed on. Now the thing is on all the time. Breakes seem to not be doing the right job. With engine running, if I press the brake pedal two-three times then the ML will not stop. The pedal is hard but seems the pads are not grabbing the disc. In history, I changed the brake pads about three months ago and I changed the brake fluid on Dec. 23th. Now, did i miss something when I changed these things? Any help is greatly appreciated.
