Guys, need some general comments from you. Are the self locking nuts reusable in general?

I got all the parts ready for my shocks replacement but according to the WIS instructions, the self locking nuts are to be replaced after each use. Checked with dealer and their mark up is 200%, the list price of $1.00 they want >$3 for a nut, I think that's nuts. Anyhow, those of you who replaced the shocks, did you just recycle the self locking nuts?

Yes. I probably used some medium strengh loctite (blue stuff), but I really don't remember.

I'd replace any nuts that were real corroded or if they seemed like they went on really loose.

I think the main reason MB wants us to replace nuts and bolts is that most of them have loctite pre-applyed on the thread, and it is one time use.
As Ron said, I use blue loctite and reuse hardware if the new is not included with the replacement part.

Thanks for the reply. For the shocks R&R, I did order most of the self locking nuts from Duval motors when I order the OEM shocks from them, the nuts are chump change compare to the shocks. Upon closer inspection of those selft locking nuts, I understand why they are one time use only. These self-locking nuts are not those Nyloc kind of thing, these nuts have a slightly oval kind of shape on one end to achieve the locking purpose, and once it's threaded to a bolt, the oval shape gets conformed to the bolt's round shape and the transformation is not reversable (like the Nyloc nuts). Anyhow, I guess I could make do with the loctite blue. It's amazing how my local stealer wants $3 for a nut that only cost 10 cents to manufacture, even the list price only calls for a $1 or so, stealer stealer stealer.

If you try the old ones and they go on tight, in other words they go on by hand until you get to the oval part and then you have to use a wrench they are probably ok to reuse, that's what I do. But if they go on loosely thru the oval part of the nut without having to use a wrench they need to be replaced.
