ml 320 oil sensor and alarm issues
Hello, I am looking for some help with my 2001 ml320. I have the "oil hi" followed by the oil light and -2.0l kind of at the same time or not at all, very annoying. I have seen some postings about sensor replacement. Before I dive in I was looking for a couple of tips Loctite 5900? is there a gasket I need along with the sensor? And is it really only a few hour job. Second the alarm for this car has started to activate about 2 minutes after locking the doors and setting the alarm with key remote. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I hope you have a lift and a screw jack, because that is not a job you want to do on the ground, you will want to kill someone.
Take it to a reputable shop, and make sure the car sits for a while while the 5900 cures at the mating surfaces. Did you physically check your oil level, was it just changed? You may just have to reduce the oil level, need more specifics. |

I've done this job on the M113 sister of the M112 in a G500. There's a whole lot more room to work under the G, so I can only whole heartedly echo the other recommendation of taking it to a trustworthy shop.
Even after an over night drain, the oil still continues to run down after pulling the pan; and it's an extremely messy job. If you don't get that oil completely out of the way, you stand a good chance of not getting a good bond with the Loctite; and there is no other gasket except for the Loctite adhesive - which, btw, is very difficult to break loose when you're disassembling the thing. It also needs to cure overnight after reassembly before putting the oil in, or you'll stand a very good chance of having an oil leak. Gilly wrote about this on a couple of occasions a year or so ago; but do yourself a very big favor and let your trusted mechanic do it for you.

ml320 oil sensor and alarm
thanks for tips, the oil hi started about 2 months after an oil change, seeing that it was time I changed it with filter 8.5 qts(about half way on the dipstick) that's when I started getting the oil hi and oil low -2.0l messages kind of randomly. I am starting to be more afraid of the alarm than pulling the pan off. Just because I can't seem to find anyone that has had that problem.
thanks again |
