Ml320 2002

Greetings to all! I am the proud owner of a very nice 2002 ML320. I have a concern right out of the shoot. My wife was driving yesterday and the engine started to sputter, the check engine light came on and it seemed a bit slugish. This is all second hand. It was a very hot day and the air conditioning was running hard. The light remained on for some time, 100 miles later, and after she filled up with gas, she had a half tank, the light eventually went off. The engine temp remained in the good range.

This happened on another vehicle I had when the gas cap was not seated properly. I am a bit concerned that this may not be the case here. I hate to bring it in, but yet I am very concerned.

I am hoping that someone could give me some insight into this. I understand that it is not a lot of information to go on. I could always bring it in the see what engine codes show up, but I would like to avaoid the $100 bill out of the shoot if I could. If it happens today, it goes to the shop. Any advice???

Thanks,
Mark

The Gas Cap Thing And The Check Engine Light Is A Regular Thing On My Ml320 Also. Dont Worry About It Unless For Some Reason The Engine Starts Running Rough.

Thanks!

I had thought this may be the case. I hope you are right. I just bought the SUV and am happy with it. I drove it all last week with no problems. She gets in it and bang, issues! She knows about the cap and so time will tell.

On a seperate note, can you buy the single disk player that fits in the control modual up front above the tape player? Or do you have to use the CD changer that is in a vault, locked behind lines, and about as difficult to use as I have seen. What were they thinking when they hid that changer??????

If you know where I can buy the single disk unit, let me know. I hope I don't have to buy the complete unit with Nav???

The single disc CD player can be found on ebay for $200-$300.
Also, the sudden sputtering and CEL - was she out of gas or something else?
Just to be on the safe side you can go to any chain auto accessories store like autozone and get the code read for FREE. It will still be stored

Thanks for the tip on the Autozone!

I looked on eBay and could not find one. I must be seaching with the wrong words. "Mercedes CD"??? Any clues? Thanks again!

The repair discs are available on eBay sporadically. Keep looking and it will come up. (Use Mercedes service CD, if you search Mercedes CD you will get every Mercedes that's for sale with a CD player in it!) The disc is actually a DVD with the complete WIS on it. It's a few years out of date but very handy to have.
