ML430 Tie Rod

Is ther any trick in separating the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod?

I have loosened nut 140 but am unable to get the inner tie rod 40 to budge in the outer tie rod 60 (see attachment please for picture).

Besides penetrating oil, is applying heat to the outer tie rod the only solution?

Thank you.

At dealer we have a tie rod end remover...many shops use a tool called a "pickle fork" to seperate them from the link. Others use large hammer on the area where the rod goes in..

You could consider replacing the inner tie rod as well, in that case, you don't need to separate the outer tie rod from inner.
