On Board Computer light
The display that gives Mileage, date, stopwatch, etc. is not longe backlit. The display works ok but is no longer illuminated. is this lit by bulb or other? Also seem to have a little trouble accessing. Thanks for some input!!

Never seen one go out, but I'll bet there is a bulb, this is typical for Mercedes to do. It's kind of hard to remove the trip computer. First make sure the dome lamp is off so you don't burn yourself on the bulbs, they get hot. The lenses for the dome lamps are removed, to do this you need to remove the colored piece just in front of the lenses. You will see 4 small black phillips head screws along the edge, remove those. You'll need to pull the front trim off the sunroof opening. You'll see 2 big clips that stick into the roof. You need to loosen those up with a big screwdriver. You'll also see 4 small black clips, those are pretty easily unsnapped. When you reinstall the trip computer, you need the front sunroof trim off so you can reclip those 4 small black clips. There is a horseshoe shaped trim piece which these 4 small black clips are part of, you need to get your fingers up over the headliner to position this horseshoe shaped piece and push it down to clip those 4 clips.

Fear not, it is a simple $2 bulb, just like the one for the outside temp display, time display, and all the gauges. You need to pull out the gauge cluster to change the bulbs, which is a lot easier than you might think (search the forum, there are good directions, as that is how i did it when my outdoor temp display went out). I think it takes about 3 minutes to get the cluster out, and then all the bulbs are accessible on the back. The same bulbs also work all the idiot lights at the bottom of the cluster, so if you want to save $2, you can pull a bulb out of one of those lights for something you do not have (say the front foglight indicator light). All MB dealers stock these little bayonet base bulbs.

Wait, I just reread your post, and now I am confused, did you mean the display in the cluster that says odometer mileage, trip distance, etc., or the dislpay in the overhead that says miles till empty, etc.? Obviously, my info was for the one in the cluster, never disassembled the overhead consoule down to the bulbs, but have "popped" it out for other reasons, not hard at all.

He means the trip computer, up by the sunroof switch.
