Unhappy Headlight shut off when left blinker is on

I have a 1999 ML 320 and recently I have problems with the headlights. When the left blinker is turned on the headlights go out. Yesterday the headlights went out again while using the right blinker. Sometimes it would do that when the cruise control arm is being engaged to gain speed. I have also noticed that when the left blinker is on and , ofcourse the headlights turn off , I can move the combination switch between the headlight on position and somewhere before turning them off and the headlights work, when I let go the headlights go off. I think that its the combination switch but I am not 100 % sure.
If it is the combo switch do you guys now if it's hard to remove? are there any write ups for this? Has anybody tried before? Are there any sensors that will need to be reprogrammed by the dealer especialy with air bag getting removed? Any specialty tools I need? thanks in advance for your help

I agree on the combi switch being faulty. I don't have an ML so would be tough to do a DIY article, will check the existing ones. If you are good with a camera and computer we could probably muddle through writing one.
It is "plug and play", no programming neccesary. Not terribly difficult IMHO, depends on your skill level. No reason to be afraid of the airbag. Just DON'T turn the key on when the airbag is removed or a code will be set. You can remove the battery cable JUST so you don't need to worry about setting an airbag code.

I have been working on cars but with the ML electronics they are a little bit weird to say the least. 3 months ago I had a problem with the hatch actuator I fixed that and now this. I am going to try it I am going to get a friend of mine to help. I am pretty good with a camera so I am going to try to make it a DIY write up. Now I just need to get the part. I see it on line ranging from $168 to $220 the dealer I called wants $265 and you know with the electronics they have a no return policy.
