2000 ML320 Error Code P0455

I have a 2000 ML320 with 82,000 miles. Error code P0455 (Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak) ) shows along with a sporatically blinking low fuel level light. If I shut the truck off & restart, the blinking light goes out. The dealer changed to the new fuel filter at 50,000. Gas cap was replaced 3 months ago. A visual shows nothing. Any suggestions?

its almost impossible to find an evap system problem without specialzed tools it could be the tank pressure sensor, the purge valve, or the canister shutoff valve over the spare tire but like i said you will be better off bringing it somewhere that has the tools to test it properly rather that throwing parts at it

In follow-up......I pulled the new gas cap (STANT regular Fuel Cap- Original Equipment Replacement) and replaced it with the old original Mercedes gas cap. Three days later the CEL went out. So much for the advertised original equipment replacement. This was the first time I did not buy the original part and learned my lesson the hard way.... lots of lost time troubleshooting.

so you put the old cap that caused the light to come on in the first place back and the light went out ?
