ML430 hesitates when a/c is on

My ML430 hesitates at take offs when I turn on my a/c. When I turn the a/c off it drives without hesitation. Once when I turned a corner, it felt like it was going to lose all power. When I pressed the gas, it would not go. I was told I may need spark plugs and/or an air filter. Does anyone have an idea what it could cause this problem?
