Help needed with a ml320, ETS and ABS lights on

Hi!

A friend of mine has a ml320 petrol. The ETS and ABS lights on the dash stay lit. I checked it with an obd2 code reader and I got p0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction) and p0720 (Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction). The ABS works, but I think it engages too early, i.e. the brake pedal starts kicking back even during a normal stop.

The car otherwise seems to be driving fine.

I read the other posts and check the battery. With the engine shut off it gives out about 12.5 volts, with the engine running it gives out about 13.5 volts.

What do you people reckon might be the issue? Where's the output speed sensor located? I know it's in the back of the transmission but a picture or diagram would help a lot.

Thanks!

Deni

Might be a faulty brake light switch, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163-m-class/1166641-ets-bas-warning-light-fix.html?highlight=brake+light+switch My 2 cents.

I am no expert!
But despite you reading the other posts have you tried to look for chaffed wires. This happened to me. I posted my experience with pics.

Relay

There are several of these used in the ML. Swap the suspect relay for another and see if you get lucky. Just pay attention to the part number to be sure they are identical. Good luck.

Same Problem

Has your problem been solved? If not, I had the same problem just as I started a long trip. Ended up in SC at a MB repair shop. It was the brake light switch. Less than a $20 part. Testing and Labor much more!
