2000 ml320 Air Bag and SRS light Problem
Hi folks....New to forum here.. looks like a great place for some great help. I have spent some time looking in this forum for things on Air Bag and SRS. Seems like not too much info. I have a 2000 ml320. I have read the Air bag light could be faulty sensor. I am out of waranty at 81,000 mi. I just don't know where to locate sensor. Any help here? It goes on and off every now and then. I have the SRS light on all the time. Please help me with this problem. Seems like a few people have same problem but haven't seen solutions. Thanks in advance.

You need to have the SRS system checked for fault codes. There are several "sensors" that can cause the MIL to come on.

As pointed out...HAVE SRS system scanned for faults.
Most common ML SRS problem(s) are door air bag wiring issues & seat recognition sensors.

I agree that I need to check for fault codes. Instead of going to MB I think I should be able to get the codes from the OBD scanner is that correct? I have read that this it true. But while where on the subject. Where is the location of the seat recognition on passenger side? I've had this problem for a while. Took car in for check engine light and did not come up with codes for SRS and air bag off.Check engine problem was the MAS sensor. Fixed that one. Thanks again.

No, ODB2 checks ONLY fuel/traction system codes.
Don't spend $250 for a part & 3 hrs to install a part unless you know it is bad! HAVE the SRS system scanned with a scanner designed to do that.

So MBDOC I guess I'll have to go to the Dealer then. They charge just to get codes. Would there be any other sugestions? What about Auto Zone? Thanks So far.By the way is there a place we can find out if anything on this model is on RECALL? Or any other problems?

Autozone probably has a telephone! Why don't you call them and ask if they can scan the SRS system on your car? If not Autozone, then maybe a nearby indie. Maybe you can even call your local dealer and ask how much they'll charge you for an SDS Short-Test. The Short-Test will scan all the control units in the entire vehicle! If you go the dealer route, they'll even run a VMI for you at no charge!. Then you'll know if there are any open Campaigns/Recalls. Once you decide what to do, you can post the results, and we may be able to offer some advice.

Quote:
You're close to the range for the crankshaft harmonic balancer recall When you go to dealer, dealer will run VMI (vehicle master inquiry) which will list all recall work done and pending.
