ML Relieving fuel pressure

I am getting ready to try a fuel filter change on my 2000 ML320. I would like to relieve the fuel pressure to cut down on the gas spray. Can anyone help me with a method to do this? Steve

I don't have the truck here to look at it to verify the location but somewhere on the supply rails for the fuel injectors should be a release valve that looks just like the air valve on a tire. This is where you release the pressure.

The auto parts store may have something already made to do this but if not an air fitting attached to some fuel line running into a covered container should work. Just be careful as the pressure can make that fuel splash all over the place.

I believe the official instructions--which you ought to purchase--will state something like the following:

Detach fuel pressure line at fuel filter.

Intercept the escaping fuel with an absorbent rag.

Probably a good idea to remove fuel tank cap, first.
